First Friday Shabbat at Church On The Way

What is First Friday Shabbat?

In Biblical Judaism, the Jewish people were instructed by God to remember the seventh day of rest each week. They were to remember God as their Creator and the Creator of heaven and earth, the Creator of each person, the Creator of the family, and the Creator of the Hebrew people and of the Jewish nation.

In Leviticus 23, God appointed (Hebrew-Mo’edim) special days of remembrance throughout the calendar year for the people to remember certain aspects of who God is and what He has done on behalf of Israel.

Today, the Jewish people, like Jesus, celebrate the Sabbath from Friday until Saturday, beginning and ending at sundown.

Each First Friday of the month, we will gather as members and guests to welcome the “Shabbat” through traditional Jewish blessings and share a meal together. After the meal, we will have a teaching time from the Word of God by either our Pastor or a special guest speaker who will give us information about ministries to love and care for the Jewish people. An offering will be received each Shabbat for ministry among the Jewish people.
